How to Get Advertising For Your Magazine

Magazine>>>

One of the ways that startup publishers can perform their ad income objectives is by hiring the services of an independent magazine sales representative. Magazine sales representatives can de facto jump start a new title and put it on the fast track to success. However, there are a lot of pros and cons to utilizing their services.

So, you're probably wondering, what exactly do magazine sales representatives do anyway? In a nutshell, they sell or solicit advertising. I will discuss their duties and responsibilities in more information a microscopic later on. However, it's worth mentioning that utilizing an independent magazine sales rep for your publication can be both a blessing and a curse. When effective, your magazine sales rep can be a good vehicle for getting new ad accounts. The converse is that your rep could perhaps be a source of income drain-since you the publisher will be responsible for all ancillary costs associated with your sales rep's capability to perform his/her duties-with microscopic or no return on venture to show for all your hard earned dollars invested.

Magazine

So what can magazine sales reps do for you? Well, the lowest line is this; the former suspect that magazine publishers pick to use an independent magazine sales rep is to insure a steady ad income base. Quite simply, you can commonly hire reps and get them out into the store with no upfront money (or very little), office space, computer equipment, car or health insurance. All you essentially have to offer your sales rep is just a division of the new company that he or she brings to your publication. And with a start-up, as with any new company venture, minimizing upfront expenses is crucial.

Another foremost suspect new publishers use magazine sales rep firms instead of hiring a full-time sales staff is the hope of benefiting from the rep's existing relationships with advertisers and media buyers. In the final analysis, in expanding to having an informative well put together media kit; company relationships can play an foremost role in getting an advertiser to place an ad in your publication. If you're a new publisher trying to break into an existing category, you are de facto at a disadvantage no matter how great your idea. A magazine sales rep firm can build a buzz colse to your title fairly quickly. A sales rep can also act as a sounding board for your magazine idea. If your view is marketable, chances are the sales rep will want to work with you. If, on the other hand, it isn't, most magazine sales reps won't waste their time. So, if sales reps aren't returning your phone calls or seem otherwise disinterested in your publication, it might be a good idea to reevaluate your concept, mission statement and company plan. Of course, there can be any number of reasons why sales reps may reject your business; it could naturally be that they have too many other clients, conflicts of interest or even lack of feel in a particular category. However, by in large, magazine sales reps can serve as a good barometer for the viability of your concept.

It's foremost for startup magazine publishers to remember that magazine sales reps will not completely share the enthusiasm or be emotionally tied to a magazine like the publishers. The fact of the matter is that there isn't much of an incentive for sales reps to sell new launches. Most sales reps will have to work twice as hard, if not five times harder, to sale new startups.

Statistically speaking, magazine sales reps know that very few startups make it past their first year, let alone come to be commercially viable. In addition, it's typical for new titles to start off with a very small circulation. Since circulation and ad rates are interdependent-the larger the circulation, the higher the ad rates-the financial incentive can be very low. So, for many sales reps the time and exertion important to make it to profitability just isn't worth it. This doesn't mean that new magazine publishers won't be able to sustain the services of a magazine sales rep. naturally put, new publishers should be aware of the challenges that sales reps face and as a consequence, be prepared to offer generous incentives in order to entice sales reps to handle their publication. In addition, and just as important, you will need to furnish the allowable selling tools so your magazine sales rep can be productive at advertising procurement. Independent sales reps need sufficient materials to sell a title, just as staff salespeople do. So, at a bare minimum, this means having a expert media kit with store explore and clear and brief demographic data to back up the pitch. This point can't be overemphasized because it is your media kit, and not your magazine per se, that will ultimately seal the deal for the vast majority of advertisers!

It should be said that some publishers have an aversion to using the services of outsiders. Since independent magazine sales reps may sell multiple titles, they are sometimes accused of lacking loyalty or putting their own interests before the interests of the publication and essentially bleeding publishers dry with costly retainer fees and ancillary expenses. While some sales reps may over promise and under deliver, it's ultimately up to the publisher to specifically state the goals and expectations that it has for the publication.

If you do rule to work with an independent magazine sales rep, you may find that selecting the right someone is just as difficult as selecting any other type of employee. In reality, an surface sales rep's role and responsibilities are not all that separate from those of a full-time salesperson. It therefore pays to ensue the same rules and precautions that you would when hiring in-house staff. A appropriate interview process will save you a lot of time and headaches down the road. Some reps may try to make it appear as if you should be selling them on your begin but remember that you're entering into a partnership in which both parties need to feel comfortable and equal. Neither should feel pressured into making a decision. Be sure to call colse to and check references to see whom the sales rep has worked with, i.e. Talk to agencies and media buyers, etc. Remember, you're hiring someone based on his or her reputation in a determined market. If field references don't check out, you probably don't want that someone on your team.

As a publisher you should set up clear parameters for your magazine sales rep. Many publishers complain that they don't have as much control with independent sales reps. It's foremost to declare the terms of a company connection so both parties know what is expected. How often do you want to receive call reports? How often do you want the rep to check in? Some reps may find daily updates annoying but if that's what makes you comfortable, lay it out from the start so there won't be arguments later on.

Finally, try to set realistic goals for your sales rep. Don't expect to see results in the first month. Sometimes it can take between six and 12 months to originate new business. Also, be aware that your magazine sales rep may ask a retainer to cover the downtime. This number is commonly a draw against commissions which are typically 20 percent of the cost of a page; maybe less if the magazine is more established and will be an easier sell. A normal rule of thumb is that it takes 20 to 25 percent of the net cost of a page to de facto sell that page. Try to sustain in any place from 40% to 55% of your total page count for advertising but do so with the comprehension that you may not perform your stated advertising goals in year one. Finally, it is not mandatory that you pick a magazine sales rep in your city or state to solicit ads on your behalf. Holding these tips in mind will greatly facilitate your connection with an independent sales rep, increase your thorough ad income and put you and your publication on the road to financial success.

starting a Women's Group

Womens>>>

Have you concept about starting a women's group? Maybe you stop yourself because you don't know where to begin or have some idea but can't seem to find the time to originate the group. It does take some time to originate the group - though not as much as you may think - and the benefits all the women in the group receive are significant.

Women seem to plainly come together to share daily activities. Life is easier when you can shop, practice or share a question with a friend. So creating a group colse to a exact topic feeds us emotionally.

Womens

We have dissimilar relationships in our lives, all of which are important. Yet it's the women in our lives who add silly laughter, endless hours of conversation, caring for us when we are ill, and a loving ear when we are hurting. Are you more relaxed with your women friends?

We started our women's group 11 years ago with the vision that women know how to plainly brainstorm and help each other question solve. We meet once a month over supper and the hostess picks a topic for the evening, ordinarily colse to self-help. In the past, we've had psychic readings and massages, too. After 11 years, we have a extra bond with each other. We've shared problems, joys, celebrations and grandchildren. More importantly, we have each grown because of our consistent connections with each other and the topics that we have chosen to discuss.

When you first start a group, it may seem a bit awkward. The excitement is there yet you haven't bonded as a group. Over time, the group creates itself and the power of conferrence together impacts each one of you individually.

Why would you want to start a group? There are many reasons why women gather. In the old days, women formed "quilting bees" where they talked and shared the sewing together. It's all about sharing. So what would you like to share with other women?

To jumpstart your thinking, here are some ideas that women are curious in:

- Parents secure together who have similar aged children.

- Women want to come to be financially savvy so they start venture clubs.

- Spiritual circles - sharing a spiritual lifestyle together.

- Women at work - professional women creating mastermind groups to move them send in their careers.

- Working moms - Moms don't have to be alone in seeing solutions to the challenges of working and creating a satisfying home life.

- community oriented - helping impact the communities we live in.

- building a stronger family - helping each other brainstorm on how to create a loving and caring family.

- Cultural - plan outings to dissimilar cultural events.

-...and more!

Society has changed significantly. For women in the past, we were part of a large, strong and extended family network. For some of us that may still be true. For many of us, our families reside in dissimilar places nowadays. So our women connections fill in the gaps. Each one of us can build stronger lives on the strength of our connections with other women. Why not secure in one room, each member bringing their unique selves to share with others, so all of us can grow and build stronger lives.

In today's busy world, we need to find a place that is there for us, and building a community of women adds a lot of value to your life.

Foreclosure Cleanup - 5 Things You Must Know When beginning This business

Magazine Careers>>>

Foreclosure cleanup is one of the best businesses to start agreeing to the "Usa Today" article, 'Trash-out' firms clean up in foreclosure biz. It states: "Entrepreneur Magazine included a foreclosure cleanup enterprise - Cyprexx Services of Brandon, Fla. - in its 2008 "Hot 100 Fastest Growing Businesses" list."

If you want to start a foreclosure cleanup business, following are five things you need to know going in.

Magazine Careers

1. Get Licensed, Bonded and Insured: Banks and real estate associates will expect you to be licensed and insured if you own a foreclosure cleanup business. If you're not, you won't get work from them. And, as they hold the bulk of properties that need your services, you will want to make sure that you are.

How much insurance should you get? Most want a million liability policy, along with workmen's compensation. Your insurance agent will be able to recommend you on exactly what you need.

2. Consult with discrete Contractors: In the foreclosure cleanup business, you will need the services of discrete contractors, eg, electricians, painters, plumbers, etc. Before you start, line up a few in each niche. Even if you're skilled in these areas, it's easy to get so busy that you will need to outsource work.

Contractor Tip: Subcontract to contractors who are licensed as well. For example, if you have to hire an electrician, the bank may ask for the electrician's certification to ensure that wiring was done correctly.

3. Expect the Unexpected: In the foreclosure cleanup business, you never know what you're going to get when you enter a house. There could be feces on the walls (more common than you may think), animals left behind (eg, an angry Doberman who rushes you as you enter the premises), or angry tenants who haven't left yet.

So, get ready to expect the unexpected with your foreclosure clean out business. For example, never enter a asset for the first time alone, knock on doors and rattle fences to see if an animal or someone is present, etc.

4. Quick Turnaround: In the foreclosure cleanup business, banks and agents expect quick turnaround. Usually, they want you to start as soon as inherent after your bid is accepted. Hence, as you're preparing your estimate, keep this in mind.

Think about the discrete contractors you may have to hire and what their schedules are like. For example, if you can cope the painting, but you need someone to hang the sheetrock but your contractor can't do it for three days, you will have to build this into your timeline.

Logistics can be a nightmare in this enterprise when dealing with subcontractors. That's why you want to try to work with the same ones all the time. The more work your foreclosure cleanup enterprise throws their way, the more likely they are to give your jobs priority over others.

5. Hire a dependable Receptionist: Many think of a receptionist as a lowly paid laborer and don't give much conception to who they put in this position. But, particularly in the foreclosure cleanup business, the someone who answers the phone can mean landing a ,000 job, or not.

Why is this? When banks and real estate agencies are calling associates for foreclosure clean up jobs, they are ordinarily going straight through the phone book or surfing the internet finding for companies. If someone doesn't pick up the phone, they're off to the next listing - ordinarily they don't leave a message.

So, hire someone who is personable, dependable and professional. And, pay them well. For they are the front line of your foreclosure cleanup business.

Women's Role in society

Womens>>>

The 18th and early 19th century consisted of an agricultural community wherein the house worked as a unit, each contributing to the increase and prosperity of the unit. Schooling and healthcare was in case, granted within the home. Every member of the household was engaged in a skill that would enhance their economic viability. These values were an integral part of their life and their success was measured by how industrious they could be.

Along with industrialization, the 19th century brought with it a convert in the house as a cohesive unit. Exterior influences directed the course they would take. The home was no longer the core of economic production, but was now the catalyst whereby all labor was forced out.

Womens

Education and healthcare institutions became the guardians of the children. Classes began to form and independent families were no longer the norm but, rather, the exception. The age of the independent house has been supplanted with an emergence of families in poverty, despair, loneliness, and frustration.

Latch-key kids, a high disunion rate, two-paycheck households, single house households, and a decline in the respect given to the elderly is a base practice.

Moreover, the role of women in today's community has dramatically changed. In researching the question as to either there is a burden on the women of today, the fantastic majority of women I spoke to said yes.

One key issue is that of respectability. A "stay-at-home mom" is not determined to have a meaningful role in today's society. Add to this the pressure of having to work in order to make ends meet. Moreover, she is not valued for the many contributions she makes to her house and to the household.

In this patriarchal society, motherhood is a low priority. If a woman is forced out into the workplace, she is still viewed as less than equal to men. Unfortunately, women have to compete every day to gain the respect they so deserve.

Recently, Congress passed the Lily Ledbetter Act which allows equal pay for equal work. While this is a great step transmit in the compensation area, there is still the matter of respect. It was the focus of the Presidential campaign, and still needs to be addressed today.

An example of this is evidenced by a short conversation in the middle of a man and a woman that went something like this: "Man: What do you do? Woman: I am a stay-at-home mom. Man: Oh. What else do you do?"

Feminine Hygiene - Vagina health & Smell

Womens Health >>>

The vagina, similar to our mouth, is regularly inhabited by a multitude of diminutive organisms.

The vagina's acidic environment prevents one species overpowering another, and inhibits infection. A salutary vagina unmistakably smells quite sweet and pleasant.

Womens Health

Yet the turn that occurs with any vaginal infection changes the smell immediately, and thus one can partially judge a vagina's state of health by its smell.

It should be noted that both the smell of a vagina and its being infected are directly connected to a woman's lifestyle, her weight, and diet.

Some basic rules on Feminine Hygiene can both forestall infections and insure a sweet smelling vagina as well.

Hygiene

o Because infectious agents such as bacteria and yeasts are found in the intestine, after defecation a woman must wipe herself from front to back vaginal area first, rectum after.

A bidet or immediate wash of the anus is also advised, with a rinse of the vulva with warm water.

o Washing also the genital area often with a extra ph balanced soap is also essential, and especially after each urination

o Vaginal irrigation is not principal as it regularly disturbs the acid environment, and can allow yeast, for example, to flourish.

o Women should discourage vaginal and anal intercourse alternation during the same session.

Once a man's penis or any object has entered the anus, it must not be allowed back in the vagina without disinfection.

Life-Style

o Tight jeans and clothing look great, but they forestall the general breathing function of the skin and especially an area like the vulva. This ended in follow will furnish an unpleasant smell

o For the same reason, woman is recommended not to wear panties during sleep.

o Use of synthetic materials in clothing will also react with the bacteria on the skin, and the bacteria's waste goods leaves a particularly unpleasant smell, so wear only 100% pure cotton or silk panties a majority of the time.

o If you use tampons, turn them very often. Left too long in a vagina, the tampon itself will be a major cause of order and even infection.

Diet

It has been shown that diet can affect directly the smell of the vagina. Eating less meat and meat products, and more fruit and vegetables have a very good follow on vaginal odor. Also, you must drink at least 2 liters of water daily.

Sexual Conduct

o The use of prophylactics (condoms) is highly recommended for all couples except those that are very familiar. Also if you allow a man to insert either his fingers or toys into your vagina, try to insure both are clean.

Vaginal Infections

This branch is covered in other articles dedicated to this subject, but any of the below can (and does) cause unpleasant vagina odor. In each and every incidence, you must see your gynecologist.

o Bacterial Vaginosis.

This gives the characteristic fishy smell.

o Yeast Infections.

Most women do not see their doctor with yeast infection, and resort to over-the-counter medicines. Symptoms comprise vulvar itching, blush and irritation. Painful intercourse. We advise seeing a gynecologist.

o Trichomoniasis.

This is a sexually transmitted illness with symptoms together with vaginal itching, burning, and discharge. See your gynologist.

A bit of care goes a long way. Your vagina was meant to smell sweetly and as it regularly cleans itself (both monthly and daily) your caution will be rewarded.

Affairs and Marriage - Why Do Women Cheat on Their Husbands?

Women Magazine>>>

Infidelity is on the rise. We hear about it more and more each day, especially from celebrities. Many people, when you think about cheating spouses, automatically think that it is a husband cheating on a wife. This, however, is not always the case.

Men are not the only philanderers. Women are also committing adultery. In fact, some studies suggest that almost 50% of married women have had sex outside of their marriage. Cookie Magazine did a study back in May that found 34% of moms admitted to having an affair after they had children, and another 53% say they have thought seriously about having an affair.

Women Magazine

This says that it's not just men having affairs. We hear all of the time about why men affairs, but women having affairs never seems to be a focus. So, why do women have affairs?

Women Cheat For Emotional Reasons

Whether it's a lack of communication in their marriage, a need for an emotional connection they are not receiving, or just the desire to feel wanted and beautiful, women are cheating to fill emotional voids their husbands have left them with.

Women also crave the need for security. Men are the blanket that provides this security, and if you as a husband aren't satisfying this need, she will seek it elsewhere. As women age, they tend to feel less and less secure. They begin to question the way they look, feel less attractive, and unable to do things they did when they were younger. Even if these things aren't true, women tend to convince themselves that they are.

If you are not reassuring your wife that she is beautiful and important to you, you are putting your relationship at risk.

Other Reasons Women Cheat

*Sense of Loneliness
*Insecurity
*Disappointment with their spouse
*Depression
*Lack of Romance

Profile of a Female Cheater

Now that we've covered some reasons why women cheat, lets profile the typical female philanderer.

*Women tend to choose partners who are also married. This offers some safety for them, as they have less of a concern to worry about STD's. They also don't have to worry about the "secret" getting out, as the married man also would have no benefit of leaking the truth. Last, it puts a limit on the amount of time they can spend with their lover if he is also married.

*Women who cheat on their spouse are more likely to be a full-time worker. Men in the workplace can tend to make the women feel important, if she is doing a good job, notice the woman, and take an interest in her.

*Women don't jump into affairs. They tend to know the person they are cheating with for a couple of months or more before they actually cheat on their spouse. This proves the stat from Cookie Magazine that 53% of married women with children say they've contemplated an affair.

*They don't always want a "bad boy". In fact, They are looking for the "ideal husband", someone who can provide the security, communication, financial, and emotional needs they currently lack.

Myths About Adultery

As you learn more and more about affairs, you will begin to understand their true meaning and place for existence. You will also be able to dispel some common myths.

1. An affair can help your troubled marriage. No, it cannot help. It will only worsen the problems you are already having. What it can do is open your spouse's eyes to the trouble and ignite a plan to address those problems.

2. Bad Sex Causes People to Have an Affair. No, this is not true either. Sex is just that, sex. It is all the same, really, until you add emotion to it. Sex can become worse if one person feels it is a problem, an insecurity, and begins to turn sex into what it never should be, a performance. Great sex comes from sharing yourself, mentally and emotionally, with your partner, which creates a deep trust between the two of you.

3. Affairs Can Last Forever. False. Affairs die for the same reasons marriages do, the lack of intimacy. If you are having an affair and think it is a wonderful relationship, it is because you are hiding the imperfections from one another. You never truly get to know the real person you are with. If you care enough about getting to know someone, get to know your spouse. Affairs lack the emotion necessary to sustain long term.

What To Do If You Are Tempted To Cheat

I hope you are not tempted to cheat, but if you are, think about it first. Typically when you have this feeling, there are problems going on in your relationship. Try addressing those problems and see if you and your spouse can work through them.

Are You curious In Getting A Job As A sell Merchandiser?

Magazine Careers>>>

If you've spent any time working in retail or as a strangeness shopper, you might want to take a look at retail merchandising as an additional one spellbinding job opportunity, particularly if you prefer to be an independent contractor with a flexible schedule.

All types of Merchandising Jobs Available

Magazine Careers

There's a great collection in the types of merchandising job opportunities available, but the main one is where manufacturers hire merchandising firms to make sure that their products are always well-displayed and kept current and fully stocked in retail stores. Other types of merchandising jobs involve goods demos to customers (food tastings at Costco, etc) or goods training and demonstrations for retail staff associates while new goods launches. I worked for several months merchandising books and magazines in several big box market every week for about 10 hours a week which complex pulling old magazines off the shelf and shipping their covers back to the magazine company, putting new magazines on the racks and commonly making sure that the displays were clean and dusted and all the display signage was descriptive and in good condition. I also merchandised sunglasses in several drugstores a consolidate of times a month.

Flexible Schedules

With the irregularity of goods demonstrations which regularly happen on weekends, merchandising is commonly a Monday to Friday job that needs to be done while business hours, often early in the day in order to avoid peak shopping periods. So if you're looking for a second job after your quarterly workday ends, you'll probably want to try something else, but merchandising is the excellent job for anyone with a flexible schedule while the day. As long as I closed my route every week, it was up to me to decide what days I wanted to work and how many market I'd visit in a single day. I was actually able to fit the work into an already busy schedule.

Many merchandisers work part-time servicing a small amount of market every week, but it is absolutely the type of job that can scale up to full-time if you find you actually enjoy it and there are even opportunities to move into supervision or come to be a member of a reset team that travels within a region doing large-scale resets of displays and merchandise.

Where the Jobs Are

If you are in the Us and are looking for a retail merchandising job, the best place to start is with the National relationship for retail Marketing Services (narms.com) who assert a very active job bank. Just add your profile to their website, and you'll start getting job opportunities posted to you as they come to be available in your area. Craigslist is an additional one possibility. Just hunt the job postings with keywords such as "merchandising", "product demos", etc. Many retail merchandising jobs requires at least some retail experience, but if you've ever done strangeness shopping that counts, and there are abundance of opportunities that don't require retail contact specifically since much of the work is easy to learn.

become a Test Driver for Car Magazines -- a Dream Job for Automotive Enthusiasts

Magazine Careers>>>

Imagine getting paid to drive some of the world's many cars -- Mercedes, Corvette, Porsche, Viper, and others. Sounds great? Now photograph doing that on luxurious all-expense-paid trips to exotic locations, where you hang out with some of the biggest names in the auto industry.

That's everyday life for car-magazine test drivers.

Magazine Careers

Hard to believe? You're not the only man who thinks so. I've worked as a car-magazine test driver since 1999 and I still get looks of astonishment when I tell population what I do for a living. Getting a job like this seems like it would be as hard as winning the lottery. But the truth is, you don't have to be working for big, glossy sports-car magazines to enjoy a great job as a test driver. There are countless other publications that use test drivers. And you don't need astonishing luck or rare talent to get into this profession.

Granted, it's not as easy as applying to get a part-time job at the mall, or even like going after a typical office job. But it's also not a frustrating, one-in-a-million occasion like trying to become a rock star or a Hollywood actor either. Far from it.

There isn't a pre-specified way to become a car-magazine test driver as there is for, say, becoming a physician or lawyer. So you have to pretty much find your own path into the field. That may sound intimidating, but it's in effect other one of the profession's upsides -- population can work their way into test-driver jobs from widely varying palpate and education. For example, one of my colleagues was working in a sell bookstore before becoming a test driver. He got into an automotive publication by taking a relatively easy job in a publisher's photo library. The photo library worked with the company's automotive branch a lot, so he was in a prime position when a job opened up there.

Now he hangs out at racetracks, drives Jaguars and Corvettes, and goes on press trips to Hawaii and Palm Springs.

His story is fairly typical. Plentifulness of population -- men and women alike -- get into the profession in similar sorts of ways. And you might be surprised at how quickly things can move along toward getting such a job if you put your mind to it. Although every person's work progresses at a different pace, three to five years is a pretty general time for breaking into becoming a test driver. Not bad for a job that routinely puts you behind the wheel of ,000 cars for a week at a time.

For anyone who loves cars, being a test driver is like a fairy tale mixed with a weekend in Vegas -- you can't help but be amazed by some of the things you get to do. It takes more exertion to get these jobs than it does to break into other, more mundane fields. But it's well worth it.

A Writing Career: Newspaper Vs Magazine Work

Health Magazine Careers>>>

I completely agree with you that thoughtful highlight writing can be more spellbinding than the classic hard news stories. I don't think that your preferences necessarily make you more noteworthy for magazine work than for newspaper work, but I do think that you should reconsider pursuing a highlight writing vocation rather than a hard news career.

Whatever you pursue, the good thing about hard news and features for both papers and magazines is that you can use your creative writing skills for virtually any story. A "featurey" lead is all the rage anyway. I wish I had more concrete guidance for you, but maybe these comments can help you find the right path for you.

Health Magazine Careers

You're aware that you can do the creative feature-writing you love at a newspaper, right? A lot of my newspaper vocation was in the "Living" section of varied newspapers (the section containing the soft news, features, articles on health, technology, recipes, spellbinding people, etc.). The larger newspapers may give you more latitude for writing features because they have a larger budget and more staff; the smaller ones may have more budget constraints and fewer staffers, leaving you less time for features.

Then again, you may have to chase hard news more at the big papers and have time to get to know your society and write the easily up-close-and-personal stories at a smaller local weekly paper. A lot depends on the publication's resources and editorial emphasis. You'll need to read a lot of each publication to decide.

One of the great things about being on the newspaper's features staff is the latitude you have; you have a beat to cover, sure, but you can basically write any highlight story you want, with your editor's approval. It's a great amount of autonomy.

You also might reconsider working for one of the news services such as Ap, Reuters, etc.; a lot of the wire stories I pulled while my newspaper vocation were features. I'm not sure how to get started with them, but it wouldn't hurt to ask your professors how to get started. Many college students "string" for them and found themselves as dependable journalistic professionals that way.

I also propose that you look at newspapers that issue the kinds of stories you easily love, and target them for your job search. Hunt for award-winning highlight stories online, or maybe scan journalistic think tanks like the Poynter found for ideas. Some papers are large adequate that they can and will cut one or two reporters loose from their regular duties for special-assignment reporting - such as an in-depth six-week series on teen drug abuse, etc. Often they're just seeking awards, but the long-view stories like this easily do benefit the community, and it's a great gig for you if you can land it.

If I had to make a suggestion, I would propose that you work at a newspaper and freelance for a magazine. My conception is that it's harder to break into highlight writing at magazines unless you go with the "trade" publications, as I did. I think it would be easier to break into magazine writing full time with more writing earnings under your belt.

I've worked for a family-owned weekly newspaper (invaluable end-to-end taste for a beginner journalist), an independent daily newspaper owned by a nonprofit connection (unusual business set-up, but a solid place to work), and a smallish Gannett chain newspaper. If I had to pick one of the three, I'd go with the independent daily paper; great latitude, good circulation size, decent pay, and a more appreciative attitude toward the employees.

The Gannett location was, for me, a case of employers wanting to wring the last drop of life out of employees. But I would bet you'll find that the personel newsroom composition, personalities, goals, etc., plays a larger part in your on-the-job happiness than either you work at a small/large or indy/chain paper.

I agree that the magazine world is much more openly tied to advertising revenue and operate of editorial content, although it's also a quiet but authoritative nearnessy in some newspaper editorial decisions. (I recall wanting to do a simple buyer story comparing prices at local grocery stores -- a highlight that my paper's menagerial editor drastically slight after input from our paper's very alarmed advertising director.) At the magazine where I edited for a merge of years, the core of the editorial calendar was put together by the advertising director, with only input from the editorial staff and management.

But that reflected the attitude of the company's publisher and owner, who -- like most investors -- followed the money trail more intimately than anything else. They don't tell you in journalism school, unfortunately, just how noteworthy the advertising department is in influencing journalism's upper management; after all, they are the moneymakers who bring in the advertising dollars, so when they speak, the big bosses listen. It takes tact and a deft hand with office politics to learn to work cooperatively and effectively in such situations - but that's another topic!

But like I said it is up to you on how you would like to take your caree choice. Just remember to read up on both sides of journalism. You might end up looking out that you would rather stay with one side of the journalism world then with the other side. Try and make sure that you get as much facts before you make your choice. You could even try and get a job in jouralism and see what you like most about that side then the other side of journalism.

Womens

You want to generate and carry on an exciting, outwardly focused program that blends discipleship, missions, fellowship and special events. Women's ministry ideas that work will contain those four aspects.

Discipleship is what sets the program apart from what the world offers because it creates growth straight through Jesus Christ.
Missions are for serving others, which gives the group a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
Fellowship is vital to the program's survival, as we have the need to be known and loved.
Special events are designed more as outreach so that you can bring more women in who need you and your group.

God has called the older women to teach the younger women. This happens in women's ministries. He has told us that true and undefiled religion is to care for widows and orphans. God may bring widows and orphans to your group. Be sure your women's ministry ideas contain flexibility for caring for them.
